  • Suffragette badge of office worn by an official at Women's Sunday, 21st June 1908. The badge comprises a cream watered silk panel embroidered in green silk thread with the title 'N.W.S.P.U. Banner Captain' and below a gilt tassel. Organised by the Women's Social and Political Union, Woman's Sunday involved 7 processions through London to a rally in Hyde Park. Over 700 banners were carried by the marching Suffragettes and each procession was allocated an official 'Banner Captain' to ensure the banners were carried correctly and in an orderly fashion to attract the maximum visual impact.

Record quality:

What is this?

Not every record in Collections Online is complete. Some have low quality images designed purely for recognition, while some have been catalogued only to a basic standard. This graphic is designed to give you an impression of the quality of data you can see. 100% meets all our current data standards and has a high quality image, 20% is a basic record with no image. Individual record quality can change over time as new photography is carried out and records are worked on.
