  • 'Anti-Suffragisms Illustrated, Woman's Place Is In The Home, Who will then earn the Daily Bread?'. Produced by the Woman's Press as propaganda for the pro-women's suffrage campaign. The postcard depicts the irony of the 'separate spheres' argument that woman's place was in the home, the private sphere whilst the public sphere was the world of men and work. Here a daughter is seen going out to work to support the family whilst the man of the house is indisposed, this being the reality for many particularly working class and poorer families.

Record quality:

What is this?

Not every record in Collections Online is complete. Some have low quality images designed purely for recognition, while some have been catalogued only to a basic standard. This graphic is designed to give you an impression of the quality of data you can see. 100% meets all our current data standards and has a high quality image, 20% is a basic record with no image. Individual record quality can change over time as new photography is carried out and records are worked on.
