  • Suffragette procession and Hyde Park Rally, July 23rd 1910. The demonstration was organised jointly by the WSPU and Women's Freedom League in support of the Women's Conciliation Bill being debated in parliament at the time. Two processions converged on Hyde Park, one from the west and one from the east. The Women's Freedom League, shown in this photograph, organised a Roman theme for the west procession designed by Edith Craig and Laurence Houseman that focused on Justice and Victory. At the forefront of the procession can be seen the WSPU Drum and Fife band. The east procession, organised by the WSPU, incorporated an 'Oriental' theme.

Record quality:

What is this?

Not every record in Collections Online is complete. Some have low quality images designed purely for recognition, while some have been catalogued only to a basic standard. This graphic is designed to give you an impression of the quality of data you can see. 100% meets all our current data standards and has a high quality image, 20% is a basic record with no image. Individual record quality can change over time as new photography is carried out and records are worked on.
