  • Crowds watch a suffragette deputation attempt to enter Buckingham Palace, 21 May 1914. Abandoning all hopes of any parliamentary progress on women's suffrage, the WSPU announced they would personally petition the king. He refused to see them but the march to the palace went ahead.
