  • Suffragette Procession on route to Women's Sunday, 21 June 1908. The photograph shows one of the seven processions that marched through the streets of London to the rally in Hyde Park organised by the Women's Social and Political Union. The banner in the photo indicates that this procession included a contingent of office staff employed at WSPU headquarters in Clement's Inn. Women's Sunday attracted a crowd of up to 300,000 drawn by the colourful spectacle of the delegates dressed in the suffragette tricolour and carrying over seven hundred embroidered banners. ‘Never’, reported the Daily Chronicle, has so vast a throng gathered in London to witness a parade of political forces’.

Record quality:

What is this?

Not every record in Collections Online is complete. Some have low quality images designed purely for recognition, while some have been catalogued only to a basic standard. This graphic is designed to give you an impression of the quality of data you can see. 100% meets all our current data standards and has a high quality image, 20% is a basic record with no image. Individual record quality can change over time as new photography is carried out and records are worked on.
