  • Men's waistcoat with no collar or sleeves. Fronts of pale pink satin (originally a strong salmon pink), wadded with wool, and quilted in vertical lines of double stitching, with decorative herringbone effect. Embroidery at neck, centre front closing edges, hem, and at pockets, in a simple border pattern of stylised flowerheads and leaves, in narrow shaded ribbon of blue and green, on a 'stem' of silver wire thread worked in chain stitch. This bordered each side with a row of gold spangles and twisted red and yellow chenille thread. A flapped pocket at each side, embroidered with a bouquet motif. Fastening with twelve buttons, each embroidered with chenille thread and a single spangle. The waistcoat back is of a red-pink glossy worsted wool, cut with a centre seam, vented at centre back and at each side. Lining of cream fustian, with facings of cream silk at closing edges and hem. Interior tapes at centre back to adjust fit.  < ...Read more

Record quality:

What is this?

Not every record in Collections Online is complete. Some have low quality images designed purely for recognition, while some have been catalogued only to a basic standard. This graphic is designed to give you an impression of the quality of data you can see. 100% meets all our current data standards and has a high quality image, 20% is a basic record with no image. Individual record quality can change over time as new photography is carried out and records are worked on.
