This dish or patty pan was excavated from a cesspit on the site of Tom's Coffee House in Wood Street, just off Cheapside. Coffee houses were congenial places where merchants met to do business. Coffee and other beverages were served and daily newspapers were available to be read.

The dish is a good example of the type of ceramic ware used in a City of London coffee house in the early 18th century. < Hide
