Suffragette 'From Prison to Citizenship' Procession, 18 June 1910. At the head of the procession can be seen the flag bearer Charlotte Marsh, behind her the WSPU Drum and Fife Band with Mary Leigh as bandmistress. The band introduced the Prisoners' Pageant of 617 suffragette prisoners, dressed in white and carrying broad arrows - the emblems of their imprisonment.

This event, organised by the WSPU and Women's Freedom League was staged in support of the government's Conciliation Bill currently being debated in Parliament. This, the first spectacular procession to be held in London since the summer of 1908, was also known as Great Procession of Women procession. Up to 15000 women took part in the procession, marching from the Embankment to Kensington where a meeting was held in the Albert Hall. < Hide
