They were responsible for the Women's Social and Political Union 'Holiday Campaign' in the area. This involved suffragettes doing campaigning work while on their summer holidays. Rose Lamartine Yates, secretary of the Wimbledon branch of the WSPU, had a holiday cottage in Seasalter near Whitstable. With the help of local women, such as the two with her in this image, she displayed flags and posters in her garden, held meetings, and organised parades with flags along the main streets of Whitstable. < Hide
