Photographic postcard depicting the Suffragette demonstration of October 7th 1911. In the background of the image can be seen the banner 'Taxation without Representation,' in the forefront Christabel Pankhurst. This procession, held in the pouring rain, was organised by the Women's Social and Political Union on behalf of the Tax Resistance League in protest against the imprisonment of Clemence Housman for non-payment of her tax. Members of various suffrage groups, including the WFL and Fabian Society participated in the procession that travelled from Kingsway to Holloway prison.

Record quality:
Not every record in Collections Online is complete. Some have low quality images designed purely for recognition, while some have been catalogued only to a basic standard. This graphic is designed to give you an impression of the quality of data you can see. 100% meets all our current data standards and has a high quality image, 20% is a basic record with no image. Individual record quality can change over time as new photography is carried out and records are worked on.
