Statue of St Christopher carrying the Christ Child. The limbs of St Christopher and the head, legs and hands of Christ are missing. St Christopher is the patron saint of travel and travellers. Medieval Londoners believed 'whoever shall behold the image of St Christopher shall not faint or fall on that day', so statues of the saint were placed at the entrances of houses and churches, and by bridges. Found in a Tudor wall on the site of Newgate Prison in 1903.
