Adult right foot ankle shoe with a rounded toe and drawstring fastening. The one-piece upper is front fastening with a narrow vertical insert at the front throat. This strip has a vertical thong laced through it. There are an additional three vertical thongs laced through slots in the leather of the upper around the ankle. The four coils of the drawstring are laced through these vertical thongs and held in place by them. This form of fastening is already known from London (Grew et al 1988, 14-15). The top band is missing from this example, as is the sole.

Record quality:
Not every record in Collections Online is complete. Some have low quality images designed purely for recognition, while some have been catalogued only to a basic standard. This graphic is designed to give you an impression of the quality of data you can see. 100% meets all our current data standards and has a high quality image, 20% is a basic record with no image. Individual record quality can change over time as new photography is carried out and records are worked on.
