  • Restored bucket urn which contained the cremated remains of a single adult when discovered. Deverel-Rimbury type pottery with applied fingertip ornament. The fabric of the pot is similar to others found nearby, the pottery being unevenly fired and containing a filler of crushed calcined flint. The exterior surface is covered with a fine slip. Two post-firing repair holes occur on either side of a recently restored crack. Found during excavations for Littleton Reservoir, near the Outlet Tower, about 0.5m deep. Lent by the Metropolitan Water Board.

Record quality:

What is this?

Not every record in Collections Online is complete. Some have low quality images designed purely for recognition, while some have been catalogued only to a basic standard. This graphic is designed to give you an impression of the quality of data you can see. 100% meets all our current data standards and has a high quality image, 20% is a basic record with no image. Individual record quality can change over time as new photography is carried out and records are worked on.
