  • Toy bridge-spouted ewer. The lid and its connecting pin are missing. The vessel has an everted rim with a pouring lip, a ring hinge and a pedestal foot. There are bands of geometric decoration with gadrooning. The spout is partially cross-hatched. This toy ewer imitates full-size versions which would have been used for pouring water for washing diners' hands after meals. Reference: Forsyth, H. & Egan, G. (2005): Toys, Trifles & Trinkets. Base metal miniatures from London 1200 to 1800, pg. 285, cat. no. 8.116.

Record quality:

What is this?

Not every record in Collections Online is complete. Some have low quality images designed purely for recognition, while some have been catalogued only to a basic standard. This graphic is designed to give you an impression of the quality of data you can see. 100% meets all our current data standards and has a high quality image, 20% is a basic record with no image. Individual record quality can change over time as new photography is carried out and records are worked on.
