J M Barrie's play Peter Pan was first performed at the Duke of York's Theatre on 27 December 1904. Popular with families the play returned annually to the West End for the Christmas season. Traditionally the role of Peter Pan was always played by female actors. Pauline Chase first played Peter Pan in 1906 and returned annually to the Duke of York's theatre to resume her role until 1913. < Hide
