One of a pair of men's mules (with A13171) made with salmon pink silk satin covered uppers decorated with embroidery of silver and silver-gilt thread, purl of two types, spangles in twisted chain stitch and laid and couched work and partially padded. Within the embroidery is a large Tudor rose, within the scrollwork to either side are round-headed flowers and at the toe of the shoe is a large thistle. The heels are decorated with rather spindly leafy stems. The toe is wide, forked and overhanging over a wide forked sole. The groove is off centre. It is unusual to find a forked sole. The wedged heel is 32mm high and covered with silk satin. < ...Read more

Record quality:
Not every record in Collections Online is complete. Some have low quality images designed purely for recognition, while some have been catalogued only to a basic standard. This graphic is designed to give you an impression of the quality of data you can see. 100% meets all our current data standards and has a high quality image, 20% is a basic record with no image. Individual record quality can change over time as new photography is carried out and records are worked on.
