  • Souvenir theatrical portrait of the actor Mr T.P. Cooke as Sir Roland the Constant on horseback. The portrait is embellished with metal foil tinsel ornaments, notably on the dress accessories, armour, weapons and horseblanket. The clothing is of shaded silk. The handcoloured portrait has been cut from a paper sheet and mounted on card painted with background scenery. Along the bottom of the card is printed the publisher's details. 'Coloured & sold Wholesale & retail by J.Redington at his Theatrical Print, Play & Tinsel Warehouse 208 Hoxton Old Town and Jonathan King 45 Chapel St., Somers Town'. Such portraits would have been sold either coloured or uncoloured for tinselling at home. Pre-punched tinsel ornaments could be purchased from the publisher.
