  • Emmeline Pankhurst and her adopted children, Mary, Joan and Kathleen and Elizabeth. In 1915 Emmeline founded a home for illegitimate 'War babies' at 50 Clarendon Road, Kensington. Nurse Pine was employed to live at the address and to care for the children. In 1920 Emmeline moved to a cottage in Devon with 3 of the children Mary, Joan and Kathleen and in 1922 they were joined by Christabel Pankhurst and a fourth child Elizabeth. As she became older Emmeline found it more difficult to care for four children and Kathleen and Joan were found new adoptive parents.

Record quality:

What is this?

Not every record in Collections Online is complete. Some have low quality images designed purely for recognition, while some have been catalogued only to a basic standard. This graphic is designed to give you an impression of the quality of data you can see. 100% meets all our current data standards and has a high quality image, 20% is a basic record with no image. Individual record quality can change over time as new photography is carried out and records are worked on.
