  • This jigsaw puzzle was sold as a souvenir of the Festival Pleasure Gardens at Battersea, part of the Festival of Britain of 1951. The puzzle depicts 'Nellie', one of three engines that ran on a fantastical miniature railway called the Far Tottering and Oyster Creek Railway. The other engines were called Wild Goose and Neptune. They were designed by the cartoonist Roland Emett. The railway passed through Twittering Wood, with its stuffed owls and woodpeckers. There were warning signs everywhere such as 'Do NOT tease the Engines', and one which simply read 'IT IS FORBIDDEN'.

Record quality:

What is this?

Not every record in Collections Online is complete. Some have low quality images designed purely for recognition, while some have been catalogued only to a basic standard. This graphic is designed to give you an impression of the quality of data you can see. 100% meets all our current data standards and has a high quality image, 20% is a basic record with no image. Individual record quality can change over time as new photography is carried out and records are worked on.
