  • Iron flesh hook with three prongs and a wooden handle. In medieval English, 'flesh' simply meant 'meat'. A flesh hook was used by a cook when handling large pieces of meat. For example, it could be used to lift pieces of meat out of the boiling water in a cauldron in which they were cooking.
