  • Iron scale tang knife with a wooden handle and a decorated leather sheath. The knife has two tapering facetted wooden scales which form the handle. They are fixed in place by three solid iron rivets. The blade has a straight back and a curved edge and is quite long and narrow. The end cap is missing as is one of the shoulder plates. The sheath is quite damaged; it appears to have a plain back and decorated front. The decoration is in the form of a long vertical panel down the front which is decorated with small stamped circles and possibly other stamped motifs. This is framed by incised lines. There appears to be the remains of a sheath lining. The seam is at the back and has been glued.

Record quality:

What is this?

Not every record in Collections Online is complete. Some have low quality images designed purely for recognition, while some have been catalogued only to a basic standard. This graphic is designed to give you an impression of the quality of data you can see. 100% meets all our current data standards and has a high quality image, 20% is a basic record with no image. Individual record quality can change over time as new photography is carried out and records are worked on.
