A Latin-American ballroom dance dress made and worn by Hazel Fletcher when, with her husband Alan, they won the World Professional Latin American Dance Championship for the fifth consecutive time at the Royal Albert Hall on 12th May 1981. The couple retired from professional dance after this win, making them undefeated champions.

Hazel had always made her own dresses and eventually started a business from home making them for others too. She notes that 'By 1981all dresses were made on a leotard base with stretch lycra fabrics or of body stocking fabric. Fringe, strips and panels were popular for the skirts. Often open on one thigh to show a longer leg line. Bodices often featured cut outs or skin coloured see through inserts.'

Dress of polyester white shiny jersey in a long line, fitted style with one sleeve, decorated with large metallic black and white plastic sequins sewn on with matching lass beads, and mirrored spangles sewn with torpedo-shaped black plastic beads. The tanned flesh-coloured nylon is used as a base for the body with asymmetrically shaped pieces of the white material sewn onto this. The long sleeve is tight and comes down to a point over the hand with an elastic loop to go over the finger. It closes on the inside wrist with a hook and eye.

At hip level the white fabric divides into a double row of long tabs of about 10cms wide. The diagonal hemline is covered with long black fringing in black and white, making the dress about knee length. The neckline is high with a slight V. there are elasticated pants made of the main garment fabric as one with the dress. Front and back fasten together with Velcro and a skirt hook on the left shoulder. There is a zip from under the left armhole to the top of the leg. < Hide
