Two 'Mod' youths with scooters in Tower Bridge Road, 1963.The 'Mod' lifestyle emerged in the late 1950s as a reaction to the violence and yobbishness associated with Teddy Boys. Mods wore smart Italian or French-styled suits, listened to Modern Jazz and, later, R&B music and rode motor scooters, especially the Italian-made Vespa.
