  • This morning card marking the death of Queen Victoria has verses written by a poet signed E.M. On the front, there is an embossed design of a medal with a cameo profile portrait of the Queen and ribbon in purple and black. The campaign bars are printed 'Victoria: In Memoriam' and below is printed 'Blessed are the Dead' and 'She sweetly sleeps, The toilful day of life is o'er'. The cream card has a black border. Such cards were bought by the general public as a way of mourning the queen's death and acknowledging her long reign.

Record quality:

What is this?

Not every record in Collections Online is complete. Some have low quality images designed purely for recognition, while some have been catalogued only to a basic standard. This graphic is designed to give you an impression of the quality of data you can see. 100% meets all our current data standards and has a high quality image, 20% is a basic record with no image. Individual record quality can change over time as new photography is carried out and records are worked on.
