Suffragette procession' forming up' in a residential street during campaigning for the Walthamstow by-election. The 'Keep the Liberal' out banner refers to the Suffragette policy of urging electors to vote against the Liberal Government. During by-elections and general elections 'hit squads' of suffragettes would arrive in a constituency, hire the best public rooms and go to work immediately to try and keep the Liberals out of the House of Commons. Unfortunately, on this occasion, the Suffragette campaign was unsuccessful and the Liberal Cabinet Minister Sir John Simon was duly re-elected.

Record quality:
Not every record in Collections Online is complete. Some have low quality images designed purely for recognition, while some have been catalogued only to a basic standard. This graphic is designed to give you an impression of the quality of data you can see. 100% meets all our current data standards and has a high quality image, 20% is a basic record with no image. Individual record quality can change over time as new photography is carried out and records are worked on.
